Celebrate the outstanding achievements of Langsheng students in the UK Mathematics Olympiad!!
At last week's college conference, Tom Phoenix, director of the mathematics department at The Concord College, sent a belated message of congratulations to students who took part in last year's UK Mathematics Olympiad and did well.
"I'm very happy for the students to have had a successful year in the competition."
"In terms of the nature of the competition, it's also a very good achievement, not to mention winning a medal!"
"It is also remarkable that so many of Concord's students have achieved such good results at different stages of the competition."
——Dr. Tom Phoenix

Warm congratulations to the above three students from Concord College for winning the award:
Jonathan (first from left, currently in Year 10) who competed in the Cayley class competition
Tony (right) who is in Year 11 and is taking part in the Hamilton Class competition
Peggy (second from right, 11th grade) who competed in the Mac Laurin competition
The Mathematical Association of the UK (UKMT) is a registered charity that promotes mathematics education for children and young people. Students at all levels of Concord College have participated in competitions organized by the Mathematical Association of the UK (UKMT).
This time, more than 200,000 students from the UK took part in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematics Challenge, including more than 90 students from Concord. In the competition, the top 6% of students won gold, the top 13% won silver and the top 21% won bronze.
"Despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including lockdown and distance learning, we have 33 Concord students who won gold medals in the competition, ranking in the top 6 percent of the UK." ---Dr. Phoenix
Moreover, Concord students can continue to compete in subsequent events. Approximately 8,000 UK students qualify for the Intermediate Challenge; depending on their grade, they will be invited to either the Grey or Pink Kangaroo Mathematics Competition. The top 500 students in each grade will be invited to the Olympiad.
Last academic year, 20 Concord students took part in follow-up competitions, with 11 taking part in the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition and nine in the UK Mathematics Olympiad.

"These competitions are challenging and being selected for this stage is excellent," Dr. Phoenix said.
Each grade ranked top 50 students received a medal and a book award. Last year, every grade in the lower grades (9th through 11th) at Concord College received this honor.
Dr Michael Truss, director of King's College London, added: "To win the Mathematical Olympiad is a very rare and impressive achievement."
"It's really great that three of Concord's students won medals in the same competition! I'm proud of them and all the students who took part in the competition."
