Striving for Excellence
Founded in 1726, Godolphin School is committed to creating an ideal environment for every student’s learning and growth. As a traditional independent boarding school for girls in the UK, it encourages students to fully express themselves, gain ample opportunities for growth both inside and outside the classroom, and develop a strong sense of responsibility and independence.
Let’s enjoy the school’s wonderful promotional video, with background music performed by its girls’ choir!
Location
The school is situated in Salisbury, Wiltshire, in the southern part of England—a region with a long history and beautiful scenery. It takes approximately 90 minutes by car to reach Bristol and around 110 minutes by car to reach London.
Boarding Life

The school has five boarding houses: Walters, Cooper, Sayers, School, and Jerred. Among these, School and Jerred are dedicated to Sixth Form (senior high school) students.
Each boarding house is overseen by a housemistress who takes care of the students’ daily lives. The houses are also equipped with common rooms, dining areas, libraries, recreation rooms, and music practice rooms to enrich students’ after-school life. The school regularly organizes various social practice activities to foster students’ comprehensive qualities. Additionally, it has full-time doctors and medical staff responsible for the health of all students, and they provide regular updates to parents on their children’s health status.
Furthermore, the staff of the Sixth Form boarding houses includes not only housemistresses but also a team of career advisors, who offer guidance to students on career choices.
Curriculum
The school offers a wide range of GCSE and A-Level courses, including: English, English Literature, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Art and Design, Ancient Civilizations, Ancient Greek History, Design and Technology, Drama and Film Studies, Geography, History, Statistics, Music, Spanish, and Religious Studies.
Sixth Form classes maintain a small size, allowing students to benefit from one-on-one guidance and support, as well as build close relationships with subject teachers. Backed by professional expertise, the school helps students select the right combination of subjects, provides them with information on specific degree programs, and expands their future options. Teachers also work closely with year heads to monitor each student’s progress and ensure they reach their full potential. Beyond the regular curriculum, high-achieving students can pursue the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to strive for further academic advancement.
For international students, the school also offers one-on-one, customized English tutoring to enhance their understanding of academic terminology and cultural differences. This ensures they receive the necessary support for their studies, daily life, and future development.
Academic Performance
In 2019, Godolphin achieved impressive GCSE results: 10% of all grades were at the highest level (Grade 9), while only around 5% of students nationwide reached this top grade.
In the 2019 A-Level examinations, 60% of grades were A*, A, or B, with a strong proportion of As. Additionally, three-quarters of BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) results were at Distinction or above. Particularly notable were the results in the arts—over one-third of grades in this field were A.
Extracurricular Life
Beyond academic excellence, the school also places great emphasis on students’ extracurricular activities. In terms of sports, students can learn hockey, basketball, athletics, dance, fitness, tennis, swimming, and baseball on campus, and may also choose other sports programs. The school has won numerous awards for its sports achievements: it has national teams in athletics and junior lacrosse, and a total of 26 students who represent the school at the national or town level in various sports.
The school also offers over 30 clubs for students to join voluntarily, including fencing, cycling, golf, pet care, photography, ceramics, and knitting.
